Bolzano-Weierstrass is a dating app for mathematicians. It is very simple. You fill out a form via email (which includes attaching some pictures of yourself), and then you will be able to view other people's profiles, and other people will be able to view yours. Your profile will only be viewable by people who match your filters.

To view the extant profiles, you request the database and an anonymized snapshot of all profiles which are visibile to you (that is, whose filters include your own profile) is emailed to you in its entirety. That's all there is to it.

To reach out to someone, you send an email/text/imessage/whatsapp message through a relay. You can chat indefinitely via this relay, and you may choose to share direct contact info whenever you feel comfortable doing so.

This is not a game-like platform with the goal of keeping you engaged. It is searchable, which also means you will quickly exhaust the pool of new profiles to look at. People run into this problem on other platforms sooner or later, depending on the size of your city, but here it will happen much more quickly because there are far fewer mathematicians than humans in general, and because we do not have the userbase or marketing budget of other, more well-capitalized services.

Using this service is like planting a sapling. By its very nature, it will take a long time to bear fruit. It is best to go in with no expectations, and it will be a pleasant surprise if you meet someone you become friends with.

This is a dating app for mathematicians. You must be a mathematician to use this service. By a first approximation, we check this by verifying that you have an academic email address. We may implement more accurate verification methods if it seems like we're getting overwhelmed by non-mathematician profiles. We also perform identity verification to prevent the submission of fake profiles, and we strictly require that all responses are entirely human-written.

While the first 100 profiles are being collected, the database will not be viewable. No one wants to be the only person on a new platform. Using an "initialization period" is how we avoid that problem. We are currently still in the initialization period and we will remove this note once the database is live.

It costs $1 to submit your profile. This is to prevent spam.

Is Bolzano-Weierstrass doing anything with my data?
NO! We are not selling, aggregating, or analyzing any of the information in your profile or messages. Messages sent through Bolzano-Weierstrass are visible to us as well as the recipients, though we have no intention of reading your messages. Do keep this in mind, though, and for many reasons, don’t send anything through the service that you wouldn’t be comfortable with a stranger seeing.

Why is it called Bolzano-Weierstrass?
It is called Bolzano-Weierstrass after the theorem in real analysis, and also because I once saw someone on Hinge who said they'd be interested in talking to anyone who could prove the Bolzano-Weierstrass theorem "without cheating". I also just think it has a nice ring to it. Suggestions for alternative names are welcome.

Is this an AI thing?
Nothing related to Bolzano-Weierstrass uses generative AI.

Who are you?
